Global IP Sound Releases New
Version of Acoustic Echo Canceller; GIPS AEC Version 1.3 Has Improved Handling of Double
Talk and Other PC-Specific Acoustics
Global IP Sound, the leading provider of
embedded, voice-processing technologies, today released an update of GIPS AEC (Acoustic
Echo Cancellation) for PC-based softphones. GIPS AEC Version 1.3 is enhanced to improve
performance when "double-talk" occurs for enhanced voice quality to enable
hands-free Internet conferencing and collaboration using a PC's built-in or external
microphone and speakers.
The new version of GIPS AEC is designed
to better-compensate for the lack of acoustic design in most PCs and the varying placement
of speakers and microphones within desktop environments. With the new release, GIPS sound
engineers improved handling of double talk, the point in a conversation when two speakers
talk at the same time. These enhancements considerably reduce clipping and acoustic echo,
allowing for true real time communications versus "walkie-talkie-type"
conversations and discussions where words are lost or cut-off. The company's expert sound
engineers also refined other aspects related to acoustic echo cancellation such as comfort
noise and switching.
"As more and more enterprise and
home users become comfortable with making calls using their PC, many users want the
convenience of hands-free calling and not being attached to the PC with a headset or
handset for their VoIP experiences," said Gary Hermansen, president and CEO of Global
IP Sound. "The improved GIPS AEC Version 1.3 is part of our response to this demand.
This version of AEC allows users to better-utilize standard computer features, without
add-ons, to comfortably have a real-time conversation over the Internet. When combined
with Global IP Sound's other technologies, users can confidently use their PC like an
advanced phone."
GIPS AEC Version 1.3 is available now as
an individual module in the GIPS SoundWare suite of sound processing solutions or embedded
into GIPS VoiceEngine. When integrated in Global IP Sound's award-winning GIPS VoiceEngine
to deliver a softphone plug-in that is ideal for enterprise soft client, collaboration and
conferencing applications. The company's patented voice-processing technologies for
softphones tackle the inherent problems of most PCs, such as clock drift, sound card
deficiencies, CPU constraints, and varying environments.
About GIPS SoundWare
The GIPS SoundWare suite of sound
processing solutions, including GIPS NetEQ, GIPS Enhanced G.711, GIPS NEC (Network Echo
Cancellation) and GIPS iLBC, among others, provides a cost-effective, quality of service
(QoS) solution for enhanced network performance in IP network and telephony edge devices
such as gateways, IP phones, iPBXs, and PC clients. GIPS SoundWare offers a scalable
approach that delivers robust sound quality robust even in adverse network conditions,
providing better-than-PSTN voice quality without increasing bit rate, and without
significantly increasing latency and complexity. For example, GIPS NetEQ and GIPS Enhanced
G.711 modules significantly reduce the effects of packet loss, delay, jitter, and echo.
About GIPS VoiceEngine
GIPS VoiceEngine is a software plug-in
designed to handle all voice-related tasks for VoIP soft clients in PC or PDA
environments. The Voice Engine is an easy-to-implement solution for improved voice quality
with all the necessary interfaces and components to implement voice into any soft-client
application. It simplifies the integration of speech codecs, communication with sound
cards, real-time performance, RTP protocol handling and other voice-related tasks. A fully
customizable voice processing plug-in, GIPS VoiceEngine is compatible with all IP
telephony standards (G.711, SIP, H.323, etc.) allowing manufacturers to quickly and easily
integrate both standard and customer-specific codecs.
